Were looking for a remote working job and learned that content writing is one of the top jobs that you can do at home
You like writing and figure - why not make money doing something I like and am good at
You've picked up on the huge buzz around content marketing and writing and think it's worth exploring
You just wanted to make some money as a side-hustle and found yourself writing
It was all of these reasons for me when I ventured into content writing. And since I began several years ago, I've learned a great deal and gained so much.
Today, I support myself and my son as a single mom. I'm building my own blog and am growing my presence online and will soon start teaching people better content writing practices.
So, you'd think that I would full endorse content writing as a career for everyone right?
Not really.

While I think content writing is a great career, it isn't without its problems. I'll lay out the reasons why you should and shouldn't get into content writing as a career path.
All the reasons why a content writing career is COOL
One: There's a huge market for it. Content is king and good content writers are highly valued and decently paid.
Two: Almost anyone can do it. If you're literate, you have the potential to be a content writer. A great one? Not necessarily. But you can be a good writer if you know some content writing best practices.
Three: You can do it from anywhere. Yep, I do live the life of a work-from-anywhere-kind-of-person. Having said that - I still prioritize paying my kid's school fees over running off to an island so I can work by the beach. So, I'm not at the beach all that much, but I do head to a cafe to work. Or I do my work at midnight if I feel like it. It's amazing for single parents.
Four: You can specialize as a writer and learn about SEO, technical writing, and other things - which will help you charge more and earn more.
Five: Almost every industry can use a content writer. It helps if you have a particular skill or interesting background where content writing isn't very big. You have the opportunity to break new ground and be the voice for an industry. And you can be in any career and shift to becoming a content writer.
Six: You have the potential to create your own business, build a personal brand, or grow a huge blog. Writing is one of those skills where you can turn it into an asset that earns an income for you. Create a blog and monetize it with ads, write a paid newsletter, create and sell an ebook. There are many ways to turn writing into a whole business.
Seven: You have the potential to make six-figures or more. If you're clever with branding and asset-creation, you stand to make big bucks in the industry. But remember that this is the exception rather than the rule.
Why a content writing career sucks
One: You have so much competition. There people from ALL over the world who can create good content. They provide decent and cheaper services, and you'll have an uphill battle trying to get noticed. Not to mention, as AI tools become affordable and wide-spread, it will affect job availability and how much you can charge.
Two: Beginners earn very little money in most cases. It can be really tough to make a living as a content writer, especially if you're starting out.
Three: The industry is very volatile. What's popular today may not be popular tomorrow. So you need to continuously update your skills and learn new things to stay ahead of the curve. And the growth of AI means that content creation will shift in challenging ways in the futyre.
